Some good colors for a celebration like this one are black and silver, white and silver, or gold and white. These are great colors for the occasion as they are fashionable, but also say "party" and "fun"!

Another great thing about having your wedding on New Years Eve is that you will save on buying food for two different occasions. With an event like this one, finger foods will be a better option than a full on three course meal. You can still provide your guests with seating at tables but rather have a large table where they can see to themselves with the food. Have all the dishes set on the table with cutlery, sauces, etc and let them do it themselves. This will save you a lot of trouble and also, you won't have to dish their food for them. Some ideas of great finger foods are fruit, crackers, crabsticks, shrimp and other seafood.

You can serve alcohol if you wish, but remember to also cater for people that do not drink alcohol and make sure you have some Champaign for the countdown. Have a DJ to play your music and also ask them if they will do the announcement of the countdown over the mic.

Residents of Japan spend endless weeks planning this celebration. Special foods are purchased and decorations are made for the front doors from bamboo, ropes and pine branches. It is believed that these provide long life and health. Seaweed and/or ferns are hung on roofs of homes to bring good luck and happiness. Children get to look forward to "otoshidamas", which are gifts of money. New Year cards are also sent out to friends and family and forgetting-year celebrations are held to wish the old year farewell. Disagreements and misunderstandings between family and their friends that they have had are forgiven. Bells are rung 108 times on 31 December to frighten off 108 troubles. After the gongs are rung, the people laugh and this is said to push bad spirits away. With the troubles and bad spirits gone, and the enemies forgiven, this day is happily celebrated.

One known tradition is the resolutions, and this goes back as far as early Babylonians. The Babylonians had a very popular resolution and that was the promise to return all borrowed farming equipment. Today, resolutions include: quit smoking and lose weight. How many times have these resolutions being broken?

There is a four-day long parade in Nepal during the celebration of New Year and in Greece the residents carry ships, apples and stars figures.

The children of Lebanon and Syria parade from house to house to celebrate this tradition.

If you have a large house, you can invite lots of people but if you regard your house as not too big you should limit the guests list slightly. Very importantly, if people arrive at your party and you have no idea who they are, don't let them in! This is a common mistake that many people make when they have New Year parties as things tend to get very out of hand. If your friends would like to bring a friend then that's ok, but not just random people knocking on your door when they hear music coming from inside, that's just looking for trouble.

You can have your guests bring their own food to be barbequed if you are having a lot of people and are not sure about what they eat and what they don't eat, but if it is just regulars, you can provide the food (if you are willing to do so) and they should also bring their own alcohol, unless of course you insist on providing that too. Besides all that and most importantly, it is about enjoying yourself and having a night to remember!
