This is one event that people from all over the world celebrate. These celebrations are not always held on 1 January, but traditions and religious celebrations, parades, costume parties are said by many to bring fortune and good luck in the upcoming year.

In Ecuador, South America, New Year or Ano Veijo is commemorated by the creation of a dummy or fake person. The scarecrow-like person is completely stuffed with newspaper cuttings and dressing in fireworks. Those celebrating will place the dummy outside the home, which stands for something that had happened in the past year. When the clock strikes midnight, the families ignite the dummy, and as the firecrackers go off the old year is wiped away and the new one waits.

In Greece, children's shoes are filled with presents at midnight by St. Basil.

If you live in Denmark and you find piles of broken dishware in front of your door on New Years, be very happy, because it symbolizes that you are a person with many friends.

Business centers and homes are brightly and stylishly decorated even before the actual first day of the year. Weeks before the day, shops, offices and homes have been decorated with banners in some shops and offices wishing visitors and customers' happy New Year celebrations in advance.

The decoration style of different cultures would be different base on the society and generally accepted practice but it can be safely said that electric decorations is peculiar with all cultures and area. This form of decoration has been in use for quite some time and has now become a very popular form of decoration during the New Year. When you start noticing them around you are reminded of the impending New Year celebrations.

Electrical decorations come in various types and forms. These are decorative ornaments which are powered by electricity. A popular example is electric lights used to decorate home and offices. These bulbs are brightly colored and generally come in small sizes. Series of little bulbs with various colors are string along a wire and can be activated when plugged to an electric main and activated.

The bulbs are flashing bulbs and so not really a source of light but more for decorative purpose. Different colors flash intermittently to give a beautiful display of electric lights. This has led to a boom in the holiday decorative industry as millions of dollars are to be made in the manufacture and sales of electric decorative gadgets. These devices have to be innovative, and brightly colored to fit the gay mood of the holiday season of the New Year.
